You may have noticed me around the church, volunteer-
ing here and there. If you see me from now on, please stop
and say hello. Better yet, give me a hug!
You can find me behind the counter for Fellowship on a
couple of Sunday mornings. I’m also working the cash register in the Spiritual Resource Center once a month. Let’s
see · I’m also a chaplain, one of the delights of my life. I
manage the Lending Library and I’ve been part of the Special Speaker-Event Team. I think that’s all I’m doing these
days.
In the coming year I will be fading out of some of these programs and working
the lines in some other areas. You’ll probably see me handing out bulletins on
Sunday or working the sound system. And I’ll be in places behind the scenes,
too, like helping out with the tapes and CD reproduction and the flower ministry. I plan to eventually dip
my toe into all the various
volunteer programs, which
means even joining the choir
someday (but I’ll spare you and won’t sing very loud!).
Am I campaigning for "Volunteer of the Year?" Not re-
ally. I’m simply getting my nose into everything. I recruit
volunteers for the ‘Share the Ministry’ programs and I’m
a resource for various other volunteer activities. One of
my personal goals has been to get involved in the various
programs to see what you do out there. I didn’t think it
was fair to recruit people to something I knew nothing
about. And the best way to do that is to roll up your sleeves
and -- do it. Plus, I wanted you to know that I wouldn’t
ask you to do anything that I wouldn’t be willing to do
myself.
This was strictly a personal choice and completely work related. However,
something happened while I was working for you guys -- I fell in love with
volunteering! I don’t know if I can give up greeting everybody from behind the
counter for Fellowship. I love providing you with yummy stuff and getting a
chance to say hello. And what’s not to love in the Spiritual Resource Center?
Everybody eventually comes through -- snooping around to see what’s
new -- and there I am to say good morning and helping
you snoop. It’s a great job.
And I’ve made some wonderful friends, just from
working side by side with other volunteers. I know now,
from experience, how hard you all work and how dedicated you are to Unity. What a joy it is to work with you.
Thank you for letting me be a part of it.
